Many
who write books end up with a manuscript and NO publisher. My uncle Phil was
one of those who had exceptional writing ability, great manuscripts, but
couldn't get a publisher to pick up his work. Most large publishers look for
name recognition, high profile writers or at the very least someone who has
the potential to attract the media and the general public's imagination.
My uncle was actively seeking out publishers from the
1960s through the early 80s before the advent of the personal home computer
and desk top publishing. Today it is much easier for a writer to go to the
next step and publish their own book when no one else will take the risk. My
Uncle and I were fast friends and I often talked with him about his projects
and he edited some of my early work.
The Self-Publishing Manual: How to Write, Print, and Sell Your Own Book, 15th Edition
by Dan Poynter is the nexus you may
need to take your manuscript from concept to bookstores and beyond. I
was researching a book in the mid 1980s and ran into one of Dan's early
editions. I purchased a copy and 21 books and 22 years later Bookhaven Press
LLC is flourishing. I attribute much of our success to Dan Poynter's Self
Publishing Manual. We have expanded considerably into web publishing
and other related ventures however our core is still publishing exceptional
books for our writers.
If you are reading this, you are one of the many authors
who are frustrated with the publisher query submission process and ultimate
rejections. If you have a project in the works that may interest us do
submit a query. However, if you are one of the legion of rejected authors
needing a voice don't let those rejection letters ruin your dreams. Your
dreams can ultimately become reality if you go to the next step and explore
self publishing. Dan Poynter is the one person that I highly recommend to
successfully take you from manuscript to published work and turn a profit to
boot.
I often talk to frustrated authors that just don't know
where to go next and without exception I recommend The Self-Publishing
Manual to get them back on track.
